IBM develops superbattery for cars

Submitted by rollingcar on Sat, 2012-01-14 22:43

IBM is developing a new super battery that is 1000 times more efficient than today's lithium-ion batteries, reports New Scientist. The battery will give electric cars a range of 800 kilometers may be a reality within a few years. IBM is developing a new battery type for electric cars that can seriously compete with fossil fuels. The technique is based on lithium-air technology. Instead of using metal oxides in the positive electrode they are using carbon dioxide which interact with the surrounding air to create electricity.

Research with nanotechnology,paper and battery

Submitted by rollingcar on Fri, 2009-12-11 23:14

An article in Sciencenews describes that scientists in Stanford have made batteries and supercapacitors with ordinary office paper and some carbon and silver nanomaterials. The paper-based devices show excellent performance largely due to paper’s porous nature: at the nano scale, paper is a tangled matrix of fibers.
