Research with nanotechnology,paper and battery

December 12, 2009 by rollingcar

An article in Sciencenews describes that scientists in Stanford have made batteries and supercapacitors with ordinary office paper and some carbon and silver nanomaterials. The paper-based devices show excellent performance largely due to paper’s porous nature: at the nano scale, paper is a tangled matrix of fibers.  Read more »

Plugging into an electric vehicle revolution

November 5, 2009 by rollingcar

A road trial of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), which could one day end up in every Australian driveway, is underway according to Innovation report.

CSIRO engineers have modified the PHEVs to carry a 30Ah NiMH battery which is capable of holding a 6kWh charge, and a battery charger, to allow the cars to plug into and charge with electricity from the grid or from on-site renewable energy sources.

Redox flow batteries promise near-instant recharging times

October 17, 2009 by rollingcar

Now German researchers say a new type of electric vehicle battery that runs on electrolyte fluid can be recharged as easily as refilling a petrol tank. Battery researchers use so-called redox flow batteries using liquid electrolyte. The old electrolyte can then be recharged at the station and used again. Read more »
