Submitted by rollingcar on Wed, 2010-09-22 21:53

According to a pressrelease from ABB  the research project will examine how used batteries from electric cars can be used as energy storage devices.

The project will investigate the potential of re-using lithium batteries from GM's Chevy Volt electric vehicle for cost-effective energy storage, which in turn contributes to improving the efficiency of electrical systems as they evolve into smart grids.
