Electric cars set world speed record

Buckeye Bullet 2.5 has set a new world record for electric cars, by getting up at a speed of 495 km/hour. Engineering students from Ohio State University, managed to drive the electric car with an average speed of 495 km/h. Record time was measured as the average of two runs on one miles (1.6 km) each. The best line was at nearly 515 km / h, which is an indication that the record can be switched again soon.

Baldo II

 Baldo II is approved for operation on the Swedish roads. When tested at the Swedish vehicle inspection, the vehicle was approved. Baldo means iceberg in Sami and the car is built by Students at Luleå University of Technology. The first version of Baldo made a success of last year's Shell Eco Marathon.  The hybrid car took four first prizes and was nominated for two other prizes.

Peking to Paris - the greatest green race?

A new Peking to Paris has been set up for 2010. The start will be in Peking (Beijing) on September 10th 2010, and the finish in Paris will be on October 16th.

The original Peking to Paris was in 1907. Since then there have been two others organized as endurance drives, not races. One was in 1997, the other was in 2007.

Japan’s Tokai Challenger wins 2009 world solar car race

Solar powered car, 'Tokai Challenger' from Japan's Tokai University won the ninth edition of the World Solar Challenge 2009 (Global Green Challenge) in one of the world´s largest solar car races from Darwin to Adelaide (3021 km) with only one goal: crossing Australia as fast as possible without using any other type of energy than solar.

Fuel Fighter - a student project in Norway

The norweigian car named DNV Fuel Fighter, is designed to be the most energy efficient car ever participating in the Urban Concept class in Shell Eco-marathon.

Driving 3000 kilometres per litre seems an unlikely distance, but that is the standard of fuel economy that the teams competing in the Shell Eco-marathon project will be trying to match.
