IBM develops superbattery for cars

IBM is developing a new super battery that is 1000 times more efficient than today's lithium-ion batteries, reports New Scientist. The battery will give electric cars a range of 800 kilometers may be a reality within a few years. IBM is developing a new battery type for electric cars that can seriously compete with fossil fuels. The technique is based on lithium-air technology. Instead of using metal oxides in the positive electrode they are using carbon dioxide which interact with the surrounding air to create electricity.

Portugal is investing in electric cars

The Portuguese government has started an initiative to build a nationwide network of charging stations for electric cars according to Finnish Yle. Audi is investing 11.6 billion Euro in product development from 2011 to 2015 and the company are planning 20 new models during this period.

Audi will emply at least 1200 new specialists that will work with development in the area of hybrid and electric vehicles and new lightweight construction techniques.

In product development includes at least two radical electric vehicle ventures -
the supercar E-Tron based on the R8 (2012) and A2 (2013) aluminum car that will become an electric car with steel body and electric drivetrain.

It is still in the conceptual stage, but Volkswagen's electric taxi provides a hint about how the iconic London Taxis can look in the future. The company has already unveiled electric Milano Taxi concept in Hanover.

Electric cars are here to stay. Next year a sequel documentary about electric cars is planned It is the american filmmaker Chris Paine who wrote and directed Who Killed the Electric Car?

The film, called Revenge Of The Electric Car released in 2011.
