CEA survey shows 40% of Americans hope to test drive electric vehicles

Forty percent of consumers report they are likely to test drive an electric vehicle, according to a new study of online American adults from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®. The study, Electric Vehicles: The Future of Driving, suggests electric vehicles  consumers with improved environmental quality and potential cost savings, but leave them with questions about battery life and convenience of battery charging.  Read more »

Toyota Prius to get sound option

Toyota begins this week to sell a sound system that will make electric cars less silent since quiet cars are a traffic hazard. Toyota are launching a noise device for the Prius to create a whirring sound when the Prius runs just on the electric motor. Read more »

Katrineholm inaugurated the city's first charge spot for electric vehicles at Fredsgatan 40 in Katrineholm. It is the electricity company Bixie, Katrineholms municipality, and Katrineholm Energy and Utsikt Nät AB, which together will position charging station for the development of future electric vehicles. Première station inaugurated by Mayor Goran Dahlstrom has the opportunity to test electric car refueling Tesla Roadster. Read more »

Opel Ampera has a gasoline-powered generator.
Battery: Lithium Ion. 280 cells in nine blocks. 16 kWh.
Charging time: 3 hours with 220 volt.
Range: 6o kilometers on the battery pack, plus 500 kilometers when the gasoline engine generator acts.
Carbon dioxide emissions: 40 g / km (European Commission's requirements are 120 grams from 2012).

The car is entirely electrical, safety cage is made of carbon fiber and will be launched 2013.  BMW has more than ten years experience of carbon fiber body panels. They plan to among other things, produce the entire roof of the BMW M3 in the very light and strong material. We also know that the mega-city car, a double floor (sandwich) much like the Mercedes A-Class, and which is placed inside the battery and any electronics. BMW citycar becomes the first large mass-production of carbon fiber bodywork.

 

 

China will subsidise hybrid and electric cars

China said that it would launch a pilot subsidy programme to run in five cities to provide to buyers of electric and hybrid cars, as the government steps up efforts to cut emissions in the world’s biggest auto market . Residents of Shanghai and Shenzhen, as well as Hangzhou, Hefei and Changchun would receive up to 50,000 yuan ($ 7,320) in subsidies if they buy plug-in hybrid cars, the Ministry of Finance said on its website. Read more »

Standard chargers resolution to boost EV adopted by European Parliament

Standard chargers for electric cars would be a major step towards a single European electric vehicle market, says a resolution adopted by European Parliament on Thursday. Smart electricity grids would also make these vehicles easier to use. More broadly, MEPs call for a balanced development of related technologies with more EU support to innovation in this field.
